Abortion foes expected to converge on Kansas Statehouse

? Hundreds of abortion opponents are expected to converge at the Kansas Statehouse for a rally marking the 42nd anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion across the nation.

The rally Thursday is sponsored by Kansans for Life and is part of a day of lobbying and workshops. Kansans for Life is the most influential anti-abortion lobbying group at the Statehouse.

The events protest the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision in 1973 and celebrate restrictions on abortion providers enacted across the nation since then.

Republican Gov. Sam Brownback was scheduled to speak at the rally. Brownback has signed multiple anti-abortion measures into law since taking office in January 2011.

Abortion rights advocates were planning to have a “Chili for Choice” fundraiser Thursday in Wichita.
