40 years ago: City eyes site plan for new garage

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 15, 1975:

The Lawrence City Commission got its first look this week at the site plan for the new city maintenance facility. Lawrence City Manager Buford Watson said the garage, to be located at Second and Indiana, was “one of those things we want to keep moving on.” Brian Kubota of Peters, Williams and Kubota Architects said the project would be bid March 4. Kubota recommended that the city build two structures, one for an office and staging area for city crews, the other for the maintenance facility. The VFW post, which owned a large portion of the land intended for the garage, was expected to vote next week on a city offer to buy their property.
