Turnovers doom KU women in 80-63 home loss to TCU

The Kansas University women’s basketball team remained winless in Big 12 Conference following an 80-63 home loss to TCU on Wednesday night.

Kansas, which struggled mightily with turnovers for the second game in a row, found itself in an early hole and trailed by a dozen at halftime.

Despite trimming the Horned Frogs’ advantage to four twice midway through the second half, TCU’s lead ballooned back to 17 with around five minutes to play and KU could not stage another comeback.

Senior forward Chelsea Gardner led Kansas with 21 points and 8 rebounds, but the 22 turnovers, which led to 27 TCU points, proved to be too much for Kansas to overcome. Senior guard Natalie Knight also added 17 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the Jayhawks.

The loss dropped KU to 9-8 overall and 0-4 in Big 12 play. TCU improved to 11-4 and 3-1.

Things don’t get much better any time soon for Bonnie Henrickson’s crew as they play host to Baylor at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
