40 years ago: School board approves shared computer system

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 14, 1975:

The Lawrence school board this week approved a joint city-county-school district ownership of a proposed new computer system. The board unanimously approved the plan for a Computer Service Administrator, which was to act as a separate entity to operate the joint computer system. The proposal was now on its way to the attorney general’s office for review. The three governing units had agreed that the new computer equipment could not be moved out of school buildings without unanimous consent and that none of the units would be allowed to withdraw from the contract without mutual agreement. Bids on the computer system were to be opened Jan. 20. Two firms were currently in the bidding for the system. During its regular business meeting, the board also approved purchase contacts for repair of a smokestack at Central Junior High, a power-driven paper cutter, and two air conditioners for Hillcrest School. An increase in the minimum wage for classified employees was approved from $1.80 to $1.90.
