The Journal-World has learned through a source that another spot on David Beaty’s Kansas University coaching staff has been filled.

Gary Hyman, who worked with Beaty at Texas A&M as the Aggies’ quality control coach for special teams will become KU’s special teams coordinator and tight ends coach.

Hyman comes to Kansas after special teams stints at A&M and UTEP. He also spent one year working with the strength and conditioning staff at Southern California.

Like many coaches on Beaty’s new staff, Hyman is known for his incredible enthusiasm for his job and the athletes with whom he works. Texas A&M special teams coordinator Jeff Banks told JayhawkSlant.com’s Jon Kirby that he thought Hyman was on his way to becoming a star in the profession.

“The biggest thing is his passion and energy,” Banks told Kirby. “He has learned under Pete Carroll, Mike Price, and Kevin Sumlin. He has figured out how to be a motivator and connect with players. He has ever lasting energy and that is one of the things he first learned under Pete Carroll. You can tell he has it when he walks in the room.”

Hyman’s addition brings Beaty one step closer to finalizing his staff. He joins Rob Likens (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks), Clint Bowen (defensive coordinator/defensive backs), Zach Yenser (offensive line), Calvin Thibodeaux (defensive line), Klint Kubiak (wide receivers), Reggie Mitchell (running backs/recruiting coordinator), Kevin Kane (linebackers) and Je’Ney Jackson (director of strength and conditioning) on the staff, which has room for one more full-time assistant.

A source said that opening will be filled by a defensive backs coach.
