Today in Lawrence: The cold persists; fit fun for kids; blood drive in Eudora

With temperatures below freezing, it's important to make sure you're bundled up when you go outdoors. Persistent shivering is a signal to return indoors.

High of 29

Skies will be partly cloudy today, and temperatures will warm to 29 degrees, although with an 18 mph wind from the south-southeast, the air will feel colder. The low tonight will be 19 degrees. Thankfully there’s no snow in the forecast.

Fit fun for kids

Today is the first day of the Fit-Trition Fun with the OrganWise Guys parent/child participation program at Sports Pavilion Lawrence. It is open to children 3 to 5 years old and teaches children healthy habits. The class will be held from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday through Jan. 16. The program is free. Sports Pavilion Lawrence is at 100 Rock Chalk Lane.

Give blood, give health

The Eudora Lions Club will have a Community Blood Drive from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Eudora High School Commons, 2203 Church St., Eudora. Make an appointment at savealifenow.org, but walk-ins are welcome.
