Lawrence Libations: Cap’n Frank’s Rum Punch in the Throat at Frank’s North Star Tavern

Cap'n Frank's Rum Punch in the Throat ( or ) at Frank's North Star Tavern, 508 Locust St.

Warmer weather may be months away, but even in these frigid temperatures, bartenders at Frank’s North Star Tavern are serving up a little taste of summer.

Cap’n Frank’s Rum Punch in the Throat (conjured from the mind of bar owner Frank Dorsey) comprises a four-rum blend, plus orange and cranberry juices. It’s garnished with a maraschino cherry and lime. Knock back a few of these and just imagine you’re sunbathing on a tropical island somewhere — the alcohol taste is masked fairly well, so it wouldn’t take long to get there.

The hard stuff: Malibu, Bacardi, Captain Morgan and Myer’s rums

Where it’s served:Frank’s North Star Tavern, 508 Locust St.

What it costs: $5 for a single; $7 for a double

Other libations at this location: A wide selection of beers (Frank’s offers six varieties on tap) and wines, plus a few other cocktails like Grape Drank (made with vodka, grape Kool-Aid and lemonade) and the ever-popular Horsefeather. There’s also a breakfast shot (made with Jameson and butterscotch schnapps, to be chased with orange juice) and for the classiest of customers, a North Lawrence Martini: Coors draft with an olive added for good measure.
