Winter weather advisory issued for Lawrence until Monday morning

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a winter weather advisory for snow that is in effect from 3 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday.

Light snow is expected to develop in the mid- to late afternoon and continue through the evening. The snow should diminish from northwest to southeast late Sunday. Light sleet is also possible near and south of I-35 this afternoon and early evening.

Total snow accumulations are expected to be 2 to 3 inches with isolated accumulations of 5 inches possible. Winds will range from 5 to 10 mph.

Travel is likely to be hazardous on untreated roads, with snow covering roadways and limiting visibility, so drive with caution.
