40 years ago: Sleet storm keeps local responders busy

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 15, 1975:

Snow and ice had moved into the Lawrence area overnight, leading to treacherous road conditions this morning. The National Weather Service had posted a travelers’ advisory for tonight and tomorrow, with more snow expected to add one to three inches to the quarter-inch of sleet now on the ground. The previous night’s ice-sleet storm had caused numerous fender-benders in the city, with the Lawrence Police Department too busy to provide an estimate for crashes.
