25 years ago: Packer Plastics requests IRBs for modernization project

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 13, 1990:

Jim Schwartzburg, president of Packer Plastics Inc., unveiled a planned modernization project in a letter to Lawrence city commissioners this week. More uses for recycled plastics and additional jobs for the Lawrence economy would result if the company were allowed to finance the $3 million effort with industrial revenue bonds, according to the letter. Packer officials were scheduled to speak with the commission this week to ask for the IRBs and a 50 percent property tax abatement on equipment purchased with the proceeds from the bonds. In its application, the company said the equipment purchase would both diversify the product line and modernize production equipment, allowing Packer to develop molds for recycled products and produce new lines for retail and medical fields.
