Indian music concert to benefit Buddhist monastery in Nepal
A concert this weekend featuring classic Indian music will help benefit the Chhairo Tibetan Buddhist Monastery in Mustang, Nepal
Subarna Bhattachan, the restauranteur behind three downtown restaurants, is organizing the event, which will be 4 p.m. Sunday at the Lawrence Arts Center, and will feature classical Indian music by Purnaprajna Bangere on the violin and Amit Kavthekar on the tabla, an Indian percussion instrument.
In addition to his music studies, Bangere is a professor of math at Kansas University, while Kavthekar is a faculty member at the New England School of Music in Boston.
Tickets cost $10 for the public and $8 for students with a student ID.
Tickets can be purchased at the Lawrence Arts Center at 940 New Hampshire St. or at any of Bhattachan’s restaurants: Zen Zero, 811 Massachusetts St.; Genovese, 941 Massachusetts St.; or La Parrilla, 724 Massachusetts St.
