‘Bam’ on KU’s radar

Kansas University basketball recruiting.

? Kansas University is one of many schools recruiting Edrice “Bam” Adebayo, a 6-10, 242-pound junior power forward from Northside High in Pinetown, North Carolina.

Rivals.com’s No. 7-ranked player in the recruiting Class of 2016 has visited North Carolina State unofficially twice and has also heard from KU, North Carolina, Louisville, Kentucky, Wake Forest and others.

He’s averaging 31.4 points, 19.9 rebounds and 4.5 blocks a game his junior season. He’s scored 40-plus points in four games, going for 47 in a 75-65 win over Washington High.

“He is so humble and works so hard. Whoever gets him is going to get a gem,” Northside coach Michael Proctor told TheWolfpacker.com,  Rivals.com’s site for N.C. State basketball.

“He has improved his offense and his mid-range shot. He has always dominated defensively and rebounding, but his offense has improved a lot. We want him to step out and hit those shots,” Proctor added.

Northside High’s girls basketball coach is Michelle Leathers, who played point guard for the KU women’s hoops team from 1992-94. Leathers was part of a Big 8 title team at KU.

“I always dreamed of getting to the NBA,” Adebayo told CBSsports.com. “That, and education. If I break my leg, no schools are gonna want me, so I have to fall back on education. Basketball doesn’t last forever.”

Newman update: Malik Newman, a 6-3 senior shooting guard from Callaway High in Jackson, Mississippi who is ranked No. 3 in the recruiting Class of 2015 by Rivals.com, tells ESPN.com’s Reggie Rankin he will soon make official visits to KU, Kentucky, North Carolina State, LSU and Ohio State.
