Suspect in alleged sexual battery during music lesson no longer a KU student

A 22-year-old Lawrence man accused of handcuffing a vocal lesson student, kissing and fondling her against her will has withdrawn from Kansas University, KU spokeswoman Erinn Barcomb-Peterson said Monday.

The man, who was a student in the KU School of Music, was bound over for trial Jan. 30 on charges of aggravated sexual battery and criminal restraint.

A woman testified at the man’s preliminary hearing that on Nov. 10 he had her come to his apartment, handcuffed her wrists in front of her body and kissed and touched her against her will.

The woman was also a music major at KU at the time, but she has since transferred to another university. The man was still enrolled at KU at the time of the preliminary hearing. But on Feb. 3, four days after the hearing, he withdrew from the university, Barcomb-Peterson said.

His trial is scheduled for May 11.
