31-year-old man pleads not guilty in child rape case

A 31-year-old Lawrence man charged with two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child under the age of 14 and one count of rape of a child under 14 pleaded not guilty to the charges Friday.

The defendant is alleged to have made two girls watch pornography, exposed himself and touched them sexually between December 2013 and May 2014, according to the affidavit in support of his arrest.

The man was arrested on suspicion of the charges Oct. 3. He was released two weeks later after posting a $60,000 bond. The man used a bond company for his bail, meaning he only paid 10 percent, or $6,000, for his release.

He will next appear in court for a hearing April 17, and a jury trial is scheduled for May 29. If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
