40 years ago: Cold weather stalls Kaw bridge inspection

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 4, 1975:

Lawrence city officials had ordered an inspection on the condition of the Kansas River bridge, but bad weather was holding up the process. High winds blowing under the bridge had made temperatures extremely cold, according to John Frazier, a managing partner with Finney and Turnipseed, Consulting Engineers, Topeka. Frazier said the crew was planning to return to week in a day, if the winds decreased. Frazier added that the state highway department equipment used for getting under the bridge was more efficient than equipment used the last time the bridge had been inspected 18 months earlier. Only one or two days, at most, were needed to finish the field work, and the report would be compiled about 10 days after that.
