Trial dates set for two former Haskell students accused of rape

Trial dates were set Thursday for two former Haskell Indian Nations University students accused of rape.

The suspects, one 21-year-old man and another 20-year-old man, are accused of raping a fellow student in a university dormitory on Nov. 15, 2014.

The 21-year-old suspect is charged with with aiding and abetting attempted aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated criminal sodomy, aiding and abetting attempted rape and two counts of rape. His five-day trial is set for March 21.

The 20-year-old suspect is charged with two counts of rape and one count of sodomy. His five-day trial was continued Thursday from Jan. 25 to April 4.

Also at Thursday’s hearing, Douglas County District Judge Paula Martin:

  • Denied the defense’s motion to admit evidence of the alleged victim’s previous sexual conduct.
  • Granted the prosecution’s motion to admit evidence from expert witness Dr. John Spiridigliozzi.
  • Took under advisement the defense’s motion requesting the court order an independent psychological evaluation of the alleged victim.

Martin will announce her decision on the motion for an independent psychological evaluation Jan. 29.
