Notebook: Wayne Selden Jr. plagued by fouls

It didn’t impact the outcome of a 75-69 Kansas University men’s basketball victory over Harvard on Saturday, but junior guard Wayne Selden Jr. only played 22 minutes — a season low — after getting in foul trouble.

Selden picked up three first-half fouls.

“I probably shouldn’t have put him back in the first half,” KU coach Bill Self said after his team improved to 6-1.

“I asked him, ‘Can I trust you and everything?’ He says, ‘Yes,’ and goes out and makes a silly foul.

“The fourth foul was not his fault at all.”

Selden had nine points and four assists in 22 minutes. He hit two threes in three tries.

Woodard cheered: Four-time Kodak All-American Lynette Woodard was honored at Saturday’s Kansas University men’s basketball game.

Woodard was accorded a loud standing ovation during a first-half time out.

In May, Woodard was selected as the 2015 Naismith Outstanding Contributor to Women’s Basketball Award delivered by UPS and the Atlanta Tipoff Club. She also will be honored during Sunday’s KU women’s game against St. John’s.

Volleyball team cheered: KU’s volleyball players received a standing ovation when introduced during a first-half time out. The volleyball team swept Furman and Missouri, 3-0 apiece, Thursday and Friday to advance to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.

He passed Greg Dreiling – 650 from 1984-86 – and has 652 career boards. Ellis’ next target on the list is current Phoenix Suns forward Markieff Morris (2009-11) at 662. … Ellis has scored in double figures in six of the Jayhawks’ seven games and 61 times in his 78 career appearances.
