Lenexa man arrested on suspicion of aggravated kidnapping

A 20-year-old Lenexa man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated kidnapping and other charges after a Saturday morning incident in rural Douglas County.

Around 2:30 a.m., Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to Douglas State Fishing Lake, a few miles northeast of Baldwin City, in reference to a disturbance, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sgt. Kristen Dymacek said.

After a short vehicle pursuit, Dakota Alexander Johnson was arrested on suspicion of criminal threat, aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping, Dymacek said.

When deputies arrived at the scene, Johnson was reportedly seen leaving the area in a pickup truck and didn’t initially pull over when deputies attempted to stop him, Dymacek said. A pursuit of a few minutes ensued, after which Johnson was taken into custody, she said.

Because the investigation is ongoing, no information is currently being disclosed about the victim of the crimes, including whether Johnson knew the victim, Dymacek said Saturday.

Johnson was being held in the Douglas County Jail without bond Saturday evening, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office booking log.
