Trial for man charged in alleged downtown sexual assault moved to November

Previously scheduled to begin May 4, the trial for a 53-year-old Lawrence man charged with aggravated sexual battery and aggravated criminal sodomy was pushed out on Friday until Nov. 2.

Carlton Grass

The man, Carlton M. Grass, is accused of sexually assaulting a woman who was “highly intoxicated” to the point of being incapacitated. The crime allegedly happened near downtown Lawrence in June 2014, according to the affidavit supporting his arrest. Grass left the state following the alleged assault, but was apprehended in Oklahoma and extradited to Kansas in September.

Grass remains in the Douglas County Jail on a $50,000 bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for Oct. 23.
