Letter: Failed experiment

To the editor:

On the KPERS website there is a link to a letter stating that Gov. Brownback did not take money from the KPERS account, he reduced the amount contributed by the state over that which was given in previous years. In my mind and that of others there is no difference except in legalese.

He has, in essence, debited the account of KPERS and, thus, debited the accounts of thousands in the state of Kansas. The KPERS and Kansas Board of Regents accounts are already rated among the worst in the U.S. for contributions and sustainment.

We who are employed by the state are some of the lowest paid of any. Our typical salary runs 35 percent below the market average. And yet, Brownback sees fit to take away from the little we have to shore up his “experiment” in Reaganomics that he and Gov. Bobby Jindal and others are imposing on their states. It is time the experiment ends and we take back our state.
