Lawrence man and woman charged after allegedly knocking woman to ground, kicking her

A Lawrence man and woman were charged Thursday in connection with a Jan. 4 altercation that left a 34-year-old Lawrence woman with “severe but non-life-threatening injuries,” Lawrence police spokeswoman Kim Murphree said.

Prosecutor Deborah Moody charged Lakitcia Marie Enclarde, 36, and Armond Dupree Enclarde, 35, with aggravated battery, claiming the alleged offense could have inflicted “great bodily harm, disfigurement or death,” according to court documents.

Murphree said the charges stem from an altercation that began with a verbal argument inside Fatso’s bar, 1016 Massachussetts St., and escalated to a physical fight after the group left the business. During the altercation, the victim was struck in the mouth.

Two Lawrence police officers responded to the altercation, where they found the victim and two other women standing, Murphree said. Officers “immediately noticed” the woman’s injuries and “encouraged her to allow medical treatment,” Murphree said.

The woman agreed, and her friends took her to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where police continued to investigate, Murphree said. Witnesses claimed they saw Armond Enclarde hit the victim, knocking her to the ground, and Lakitcia Enclarde then kicked the woman while she was down.

It was unclear Thursday whether the two Enclardes were related.

Pro Tem Judge James George set both suspects’ bonds at $5,000. They remained booked in the Douglas County Jail as of 5 p.m. Thursday. They are set to appear next in court on April 29.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office could not provide booking photos Thursday.
