KU football finalizes 2016, 2017 non-conference schedules

With its previously scheduled home-and-home series with the University of Hawaii recently coming off the books, the Kansas University football program moved quickly to fill the open spots in its 2016 and 2017 schedules.

KU announced Friday the non-conference portion of its schedule for both seasons, which will include a total of four home games and two road games.

KU was able to get out of its series with Hawaii when UH announced Arizona would take KU’s place on its 2016 schedule.

KU neither made nor lost money by getting out of the series that was announced by former KU coach Charlie Weis during the summer of 2013.

The new schedules break down like this:

2016 –

Sept. 3 vs. Rhode Island

Sept. 10 vs. Ohio

Sept. 17 at Memphis

2017 –

Sept. 2 vs. Southeast Missouri State

Sept. 9 vs. Central Michigan

Sept. 16 at Ohio

The games against Rhode Island and Southeast Missouri State filled the slots vacated by Hawaii.

The Big 12 portion of those schedules will be released in the future.

As for the 2015 season, KU will kick off the David Beaty era on Sept. 5 against South Dakota State.
