Lawrence to hold woodchip and compost sale Saturday

The city of Lawrence will sell wood chips and compost Saturday at the Wood Recovery and Composting Facility, 1420 E. 11th St., the city said in a release.

Compost is a fertilizer, typically mixed into garden soil, and wood chips are often used to cover soil. Between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. both can be purchased for $10 per bucket load, which amounts to about two cubic yards.

City workers will load trucks and trailers but cannot load vehicles with ladder racks, the release said. Small, self-loaded containers will be filled for free.

The sale is intended for personal rather than commercial purposes, the release said. Purchasers should use a tarp to prevent wood chips and compost from littering city streets.

In addition, wood chips and compost will be sold each Saturday through mid-December between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the facility, the release said. These purchases are self-loaded for $10 per truck or trailer and purchasers should bring their own shovel.
