Style Scout: Pete Williams
Name: Pete Williams
Age: 42
Relationship status: Married
Hometown: That’s a hard question — I’ll say Lawrence, but I’m from all over, actually.
Time in Lawrence: Nine years.
Occupation: Adjunct lecturer at KU in American studies.
Dream job: The job I’m hoping for is tenured professor — (laughs) that counts as a dream job because it’s nearly out of reach.
What were you doing when scouted? Vintage clothing shopping at Arizona Trading Company.
Describe your style: Affordable, urban, hipstery. Used to be grad-school chic, but I graduated.
Fashion trends you love: Reused and recycled clothing. I like that.
Fashion trends you hate: Wearing pajamas in public.
Fashion influences: Affordability most influences my style, I’d say.
What would you like to see more or less of in Lawrence? I’d like to see a downtown grocery story and more tacos in Lawrence.
Tattoos or piercings: One tattoo — it’s a skull on my upper arm I got two years ago. It’s not a Harley-type skull; it’s a realistic drawing I decided to get for my 40th birthday kind of as a joke.
Whom do people say you look like? Well, my wife is very kind and says Mark Ruffalo.
What type of music do you listen to: Lots of jazz, and I just saw TV on the Radio live and they were fantastic.
Tell us a secret: I like to play old-school fantasy role-playing computer games, like Zelda-type games.
