40 years ago: Principals object to student relocation plan

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 5, 1975:

A plan to relocate Centennial Elementary School students at Cordley Elementary School to make room for expanded high school programs had received negative votes from the principals of the two schools, Meeting with the USD 497 board at a recent study session, Centennial principal George Lloyd and Cordley principal Paul Dickens registered their concerns. Lloyd said the merger of the two schools “would cause an over-crowding situation” and would cause substantial staff scheduling problems as well as a shortage of parking and playground space. Dickens said his main concern was for student safety while traveling to and from school, citing the busy traffic intersection near Cordley.
