Rain greets Lawrence Thursday morning

Rain greeted Lawrence Thursday morning, but it will give way to sun later in the day.

The National Weather Service reported thunder and about a half-inch of rain at the Lawrence Municipal Airport between 3 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., with most of the precipitation falling between 5 and 6 a.m. Storms are expected to leave the area by mid-morning, and clouds will give way to sunshine and a high of 72 degrees on Thursday.

Tonight there will be a chance of showers again before 1 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 1 and 4 a.m. Friday, then a chance of showers again after 4 a.m. The low will be about 45 degrees.

Friday will cool down significantly. During the day Friday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers before 1 p.m. It will be cloudy through mid-morning and then gradually clear, with a high near 57. The day will bring some breezes, with a north wind 15 to 25 mph and gusts as high as 30 mph.
