25 years ago: KU freshman disciplined for behavior toward pizza delivery driver

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 2, 1990:

A Kansas University fraternity today suspended a member whose behavior toward a pizza delivery person had sparked confrontations over the weekend. The original disturbance had occurred at 2 a.m. Friday when a Pizza Shuttle driver had brought two pizzas to the SAE house, 1301 West Campus Road. According to Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s president, a freshman member of SAE had been disciplined for grabbing a pizza from the black female driver. The driver alleged that the fraternity member had made racially derogatory remarks and knocked a pizza to the floor. She further reported that after she had delivered the second pizza, he had thrown the damaged pizza at her as she left the fraternity house. Upon returning to her car in the parking lot, the driver discovered that her vehicle had been burglarized, with two more pizzas, a soft drink, and some personal items missing. Police said they had no suspects in the theft but that there was no evidence SAE members were involved in that occurrence. The following two nights, groups had gathered at the SAE house to demand the fraternity member be punished. The SAE freshman later apologized to the driver and admitted that he had been intoxicated that evening.
