Jimmy John’s security breach affects Lawrence location

The national sandwich chain Jimmy John’s believes a security breach over the summer resulted in stolen customer credit and debit card data from over 200 stores, including one in Lawrence.

The company said the breach has now been contained and all franchise locations are secure for credit and debit card use. The Jimmy John’s location at 1720 W. 23rd St. in Lawrence was affected between July 1 and Aug. 2, according to a news release.

The cards affected were those swiped at the stores and did not include those entered manually or online. Compromised information is believed to include the cardholder’s name, verification code and possibly the card’s expiration date.

Information entered online, such as addresses, emails and passwords, remains secure, the company said.

Jimmy John’s believes 216 stores and an untold amount of customers were affected. The nationwide breach occurred between June 16 and Sept. 5.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this incident may have on our customers,” the news release said.

Two Wichita stores and another in Lansing are also believed to be affected. A full list, with the dates of breach included, can be found at JimmyJohns.com.

The company believes intruders “stole log-in credentials from the company’s point-of-sale vendor and used these stolen credentials to remotely access the point-of-sale systems at some corporate and franchised locations.”
