Milwaukee ? Jacie Jermier’s goal just seven minutes in was enough to send Kansas University to its first soccer loss of the season, a 1-0 setback to Marquette on Friday night.

The 16th-ranked Jayhawks, off to their best start in program history, fell to 8-1-0, while the Golden Eagles improved to 3-5-1.

“Some of our decision making in the attacking third wasn’t consistent tonight,” KU coach Mark Francis said. “In some ways though, I think it’s good for us that we lost this game. I think it will help us down the road and get us more focused as we move on to our next game. We’ll learn from this and get ready for St. Mary’s on Sunday.”

Ali Kimura and Liana Salazar led the Jayhawk attack with three shots apiece, while six other KU players each tallied a shot.

KU goalkeeper Kaitlyn Stroud was handed her first loss of the year in goal for KU but has still yet to allow more than one goal in a game this year.

KU will host St. Mary’s at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.
