Fashion Column Twins: How to style a black midi skirt

The black midi skirt is one of our favorite styles because it’s versatile enough to pair it with many different pieces in your wardrobe.

The midi-length skirt is becoming more popular this season, and we think it’s a great length for all ages. You can dress it up for a party or dress it down for an everyday look. It’s definitely a piece you’ll want to have in your closet for fall, but you’ll still be able to wear it in the spring as well.

Emily Kennedy wears a black midi skirt from H&M, chambray shirt from Forever 21 and nude heels from Aldo.

How to dress it up

The black midi skirt is a perfect piece to have to dress up for a night out or any evening occasion.

You could pair it with a black cropped top and a simple pair of heels for an edgy, dressed-up look.

If you want to go the more conservative route, try tucking in a silk tank top or (when the weather really cools down) a long-sleeve turtleneck top to the skirt. You could add a pair of closed-toed heels or even dressy tall boots.

Don’t forget to accessorize with a chunky statement necklace and bracelets!

How to dress it down

Dressing down the skirt is really easy.

We love pairing ours with a chambray shirt or even a simple cotton tank top or T-shirt. You could also style the skirt with a cute fall sweater.

If the skirt has a full, flared style, then make sure that your top is more slimming. Slip on some flats, or even some ankle boots to keep it casual. You could also throw on a denim or leather jacket to keep warm this fall.

Where to buy the midi skirt

There are many different styles of the black midi skirt that you can find just about anywhere.

You can find them in a fitted bodycon style, a flared a-line style, a semi-flared chiffon style, or even one of our favorite styles: in leather!

Are our favorites retailers that carry a midi skirt are H&M, Asos, Express, Nordstrom and Forever 21.

The black midi skirt is also surprisingly affordable, and one of our favorite styles for fall is the faux leather style. It’s edgy but can be sophisticated at the same time. Just like the others, you can dress them up or down. The leather really turns it into a great fall look.
