The head of a national military veterans organization will speak at a local chapter on Sept. 18.

Mike Helm, the National Commander for the American Legion, will appear in front of Lawrence’s Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 as part of his tour of Kansas.

Helm will speak on news within the Legion and on other veterans affairs, according to Don Dalquest, commander of the Lawrence chapter. A lunch will also be available.

The event will be held at 3408 W. Sixth St and begins at 11:45 a.m. The public is welcome to attend. General admission is free, but lunch will cost $5, Dalquest said.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this story incorrectly named Mike Moss as the visiting commander. Moss is the National Commander for the Sons of the American Legion organization.
