Lawrence woman charged with aggravated battery a no-show in court

Keshia Elizabeth Falcon

Douglas County District Court Judge Jack Murphy issued a warrant for the arrest of a Lawrence woman charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after she failed to appear in court Thursday.

Keshia Falcon, 22, is charged in connection with an Aug. 5 disturbance in which she allegedly hit another woman on the head with a brandy bottle and cut her with an unknown object. According to the affidavit for Falcon’s arrest, the victim told police that after Falcon struck her with the bottle, Falcon said, “That’s what you get,” and left. The crime allegedly occurred in the victim’s apartment.

On Thursday, Falcon was supposed to attend a court hearing, the last one before her Nov. 10 jury trial.

Falcon’s attorney, Clinton Lee, said he learned Falcon had bonded out of jail about two weeks ago. He had not had contact with Falcon since her release, he said.

Assistant Douglas County District Attorney Catherine Decena said Falcon fled after meeting with her probation officer following her release and learning that there were warrants for her arrest in an unrelated drug case.

Falcon has failed to appear or comply more than eight times in Douglas County, according to court records. If she is arrested in connection with the warrant Murphy issued Thursday, she will be required to post a $25,000 bond to be released.

With Falcon a no-show, Murphy removed her November trial date from the court schedule. Murphy is one of the judges filling in for retired District Judge Michael Malone until the recently appointed James McCabria takes the bench.
