Police are investigating a sexual assault that reportedly occurred over the weekend in central Lawrence.

Officers were called to the hospital Monday morning regarding the assault, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, police department spokesman. They spoke to the victim and determined that the assault happened early Saturday morning at a home in central Lawrence.

The victim is an adult female, and the suspect was someone she knew, McKinley said.

McKinley declined to be more specific about where the assault occurred, saying it could compromise the victim’s privacy.

Officers and detectives continued to investigate Monday and no arrest had been made, McKinley said.
