KU Theatre’s ‘Proof’ tackles themes of loss, mental illness

Kansas University Theatre’s production of the 2000 Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning “Proof” will open Friday at the William Inge Theatre in Murphy Hall.

“Proof” tells the story of Catherine, a young woman struggling to cope with the death of her mathematically brilliant, mentally ill father, Robert. As a relationship develops between Catherine and one of her father’s former students, she becomes increasingly aware that Robert passed not only his mathematical gifts along to her, but possibly his mental instability as well.

Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9, as well as 2:30 p.m. Oct. 5.

Tickets cost $15 for adults, $14 for seniors and KU faculty and staff, and $10 for children. KU student tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
