40 years ago: KU starts shuttle service for home football games

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 1, 1974:

Shuttle buses were to be used for the upcoming Saturday and for every home football game at Kansas University this fall to help alleviate parking problems near Memorial Stadium, according to Frank Burge, director of the Student Union. Del Shankel, executive vice chancellor, had asked Burge to arrange for two buses to transport fans from a parking lot west of Murphy Hall. The buses were to run from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. the day of each home game, giving free rides to those who parked in the lot; parking was also free. The decision to use shuttle buses was the result of a recent decision to reserve an extra 440 parking spaces in X Zone, just east of the stadium, for use by Athletic Association contributors.
