The Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St., will celebrate famed modernist artist and Kansas University professor Albert Bloch with an event at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The American-born Bloch lived in Germany from 1909 to 1921, where he became a part of “Blue Riders,” a group of early-20th-century European modernists. He accepted a teaching job at KU shortly after returning to the U.S. after World War I, and remained there until retiring in 1947.

The library’s event will feature authors Frank Baron and Jon Blumb as they introduce their new book, “Albert Bloch and the Blue Rider: The Munich Years,” and will also include readings of Bloch’s poetry by Jeff Weinberg and excerpts from Tim DePaepe’s Bloch-centric documentary, “AB.”
