An inmate at the Douglas County Jail is back in custody with a new charge of aggravated escape of custody after failing to return for a work release program, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Jeffrey Desmond Murdock, 47, of St. Louis, Mo., was arrested Saturday morning after failing to return in a 24-hour period from the program at the Douglas County Jail, Lt. Steve Lewis said.

Murdock was never a threat to the public, Lewis said.
