25-year-old Lawrence man pleads not guilty to seven drug-related charges

A 25-year-old Lawrence man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to seven drug-related charges.

Kristopher Ryan Johnson is charged with three counts of intent to distribute marijuana, two counts of using a communication facility to facilitate a drug transaction, one count of possessing drug paraphernalia and once count of possessing cocaine.

Johnson’s attorney, Adam Hall, told Douglas County District Court Judge Robert Fairchild Wednesday afternoon that he and his client are in plea negotiations with the prosecution and that he does not foresee the case going to trial.

Each of the distribution charges carries a sentence of up to 83 months in prison, the communication facility charges carry sentences of up to 23 months, and the possession of drugs and paraphernalia charges carry sentences of up to 42 months.

Johnson is out of jail on his own recognizance.
