Wichita ? Ottawa senior Kord Ferguson topped the Class 4A state meet record twice in the shot put with successive throws Friday.

With the PA announcer calling attention to each of his throws, Ferguson raised his arms to pump up the crowd before heaving the shot 63 feet and 41/2 inches on his third throw of the day, breaking a record of 62-9.5 set in 2006. His fourth throw went even further, 64-07.5 before he scratched on his last two attempts.

Ferguson won the event by more than 10 feet.
