Lawrence part of national bracket to determine winner of ‘America’s Best Place to Live’

Sure, why not have a little May Madness?

Lawrence is a town that knows a thing or two about tournaments with 64-team brackets, and now the community — not the Kansas University basketball team — finds itself in a bracket challenge.

The editors at Outside, the outdoor-oriented website and magazine, have chosen Lawrence as one of the 64 finalists for “America’s Best Place to Live.” To choose a winner, though, the publication has set up a bracket where communities square off against one another. Online voting will determine the winner.

In the first round, Lawrence squares off against Athens, Ohio, a town of about 25,000 that is home to Ohio University. But have the crimson and blue face paint ready for a potential second round matchup against . . . Columbia, Mo., home to the Missouri Tigers. On second thought, don’t get geared up yet — 64-team tournaments haven’t exactly been their strong suit.

Voting for round one is open now and lasts for five days. People can vote by going to outsideonline.com or using this special link to land directly on the voting page: bit.ly/1jySl1M. People can vote once per round. An overall winner will be announced June 15.
