Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Douglas, Franklin and Jefferson counties until 10 p.m.

Large hail is the main threat of a severe thunderstorm watch that includes Douglas, Franklin and Jefferson Counties and will be in effect until 10 p.m.

Brian Bargenbrouch of the National Weather Service in Topeka said that although there’s a chance many residents won’t see a single storm Saturday evening, those that do may encounter golf-ball-sized (or larger) hail.

Bargenbrouch said Saturday afternoon that he is seeing storms developing from northwest Missouri to south-central Kansas and scattered rain and storms are likely to also develop in eastern Kansas.

Strong wind gusts are also possible, and Bargenbrouch said that although a tornado could not be ruled out, the probability of one is low.

Another round of thunderstorms are likely Sunday evening, Bargenbrouch said.
