Today in Lawrence: Cinco de Taco, ‘Journey of the Universe’

High-five

The ab-fab forecasts continue into Cinco de Mayo to start your week. Today’s high will get close to 83 while the skies over downtown Lawrence remain sunny, cloudless and super blue. A good day to skip school or work (just don’t blame it on us).

Speaking of jobs …

If you need one, don’t miss Jim McKelvey‘s free presentation “Cramming for Employment: The Millennial Career Path,” at 4 p.m. in the Spahr Classroom, Eaton Hall, 1520 W. 15th St. McKelvey took a roundabout path to entrepreneurial success, and he wants everyone from engineers to musicians to know they can do the same. His most recent venture is LaunchCode, an app that helps students learn to program and find jobs at more than 100 affiliated companies.

Universal journey

At 6 p.m., head to Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St., for a free screening of the film “Journey of the Universe,” a documentary exploring the human connection to Earth and the cosmos. The film was the result of the collective inspiration of a 30-year collaboration between Brian Swimme, Mary Evelyn Tucker, John Grim, and the late Thomas Berry, a historian of world religions and a leading environmental thinker.

Cinco de Taco

Finally, if you want to unwind a little for the holiday, the Replay Lounge, 946 Massachusetts St., has the show for you. From 6 to 9 p.m., join Lawrence burlesque revue Foxy by Proxy, DJ D.G. Boogie and Taco Zone for dancing, music and, yes, those beloved tacos. 21+. $3 cover.
