Kansas University student reports sexual battery on campus

A 20-year-old Kansas University student reported being sexually battered on campus early Sunday morning, and the suspect has not been identified, according to an alert sent to KU students and faculty on Monday.

A female student reported to police that she accepted a ride from a man she did not know near the corner of 14th and Ohio streets around 2:20 a.m. Sunday, the statement said. The student told officers that the man touched her while driving westbound on Jayhawk Boulevard.

From there, the man drove south on Naismith Drive and turned west onto 15th Street. According to the alert, the man then stopped the car in front of Learned Hall, and the woman got out.

The statement describes the suspect as a black male with short hair and a heavy accent. According to the alert, the vehicle is a 1980s or 1990s maroon sedan with cloth seats.

KU police are asking anyone with information about the incident or the suspect to call Crime Stoppers at 864-8888 or the KU Public Safety Office at 864-5900.
