Masters of Magic come to Theatre Lawrence

Theatre Lawrence is hosting the International Brotherhood of Magicians for a family-friendly matinee and evening shows of illusion Saturday.

The Masters of Magic show will feature nine Midwest magicians, with John Weaver, a specialist in magic for children, as the night’s emcee. Joining Weaver will be Steve Steiner — three-time winner of the Kansas City Stage Magician of the Year award — whose acts entail people disappearing, floating in the air or chopped into pieces.

Longtime Lawrence resident Gene Kean, who co-founded Lawrence’s Sunshine Acres Montessori School where he performed magic for 40 years, will also perform. Other acts include a regular Renaissance Fair performer hoping to break his record for escaping a strait jacket, a member of the Academy of Magical Arts, and singing acts.

The International Brotherhood of Magicians is an organization with 15,000 amateur and professional members worldwide.

The two shows on Saturday will be at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for kids 14 and under. For tickets call 843-7469 or visit theatrelawrence.com.
