Baker women win NAIA opener

? Baker University’s women’s basketball team won its first game in the NAIA Div. I National Championship, 74-61 over Cumberlands (Ky.) on Wednesday morning.

Baker, making its first appearance in the national championship, improved to 27-6.

No. 23-ranked Cumberland’s season ended with a 19-11 record.

BriAnna Garza led Baker with 24 points. Kyrstie Ehm added 17 and Shea Shoemaker 12.

The Wildcats will face Bethel (Tenn.) at 8 a.m. Friday in the second round.
