Douglas County eighth-grader wins Topeka spelling bee
Ethan Perrins, an eighth-grader at Southwest Middle School, won the Topeka Capital-Journal’s 61st annual Regional Spelling Bee in 21 rounds Saturday, correctly spelling the word “disembark” to take the title.
The top spellers in a 26-county region competed in the event at Seaman High School in Topeka.
Ethan won the right to represent the region at the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., on May 26.
