Overland Park man arrested on suspicion of drug, gun offenses outside nightclub

Lawrence police arrested an Overland Park man on suspicion of felony drug and gun charges early Saturday morning outside a nightclub.

Darnell Sharon O’Connor, 32, was booked into Douglas County Jail and later released on a $24,000 bond. O’Connor was arrested on suspicion of felony cultivation and distribution of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a firearm and possessing money thought to have been earned through drug sales.

Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman, said officers on foot patrol in the parking lot surrounding Club Magic, 824 W. 24th St., saw two vehicles with firearms visible inside. When the officers contacted the drivers of the vehicles later outside, they discovered that O’Conner was a felon prohibited from possessing a firearm and arrested him after 3 a.m. Police also found him to be in possession of 27 prescription pills in a bag and a large amount of cash officers believed to be the proceeds of drug transactions.
