Man struck in the head with beer bottle during fight at Lawrence nightclub

A Topeka man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery Sunday morning after a fight at a Lawrence nightclub in which one man was struck in the head with a beer bottle.

Officers with the Lawrence Police Department responded to reports of a fight inside Cadillac Ranch, 2515 W. 6th St., around 1 a.m. Sunday. Two men were talking when one became angry and punched the other several times, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, LPD spokesman. The suspect then broke a beer bottle on the victim’s head before the fight was broken up.

Journal-World news partner Operation 100 News reported that an ambulance was requested for the victim, who was in stable condition but bleeding from the head.

Officers located the suspect as he was preparing to board a party bus, McKinley said.

Topeka resident William Franco Garcia, 36, was arrested and booked into the Douglas County Jail on one count of battery and one count of aggravated battery.
