Douglas County under tornado watch until 1 a.m.

Douglas County is under a tornado watch until 1 a.m. Monday morning, the National Weather Service announced at 6:45 p.m. today.

The tornado watch is set for northeastern Kansas and northwest Missouri. Kansas counties included in the watch include Atichison, Brown, Doniphan, Douglas, Franklin, Jefferson, Johnson, Leavenworth, Miama, Nemaha, Osage, Shawnee and Wyandotte counties.

A tornado watch means weather conditions are advantageous for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service. Residents in the area should watch for threatening weather and listen for possible warnings.
