Governor recognizes Lawrence-based Grandstand for business growth

A Lawrence manufacturer has received statewide recognition for the growth of its business.

Lawrence-based Grandstand Glassware and Apparel received the fifth place award in the Governor’s Appreciation Business of the Year Award. Grandstand — which is operated by former Kansas University basketball player Chris Piper — was recognized for making more than $6 million worth of capital investments as part of an expansion in the East Hills Business Park.

The company has seen business grow as its line of glassware for the craft brewing industry has gained market share around the world.

As part of the award, the company was cited for growing its production and warehouse space to 150,000 square feet, up from about 40,000 square feet in 2011. Employee totals also have grew to 97 full-time equivalents last year, up from 45 in 2011.
